Are Dog Cakes Safe? What Goes Into a Pupshoppe Cake

Are Dog Cakes Safe? What Goes Into a Pupshoppe Cake

One of the first things people ask us is:

“Safe ba talaga ‘to for dogs?”
“Pwede ba ‘to kainin ng dog ko?”

And honestly—it’s a good question.

Because not all “dog cakes” are made the same.

What Actually Goes Into Our Cakes

At Pupshoppe dog cake shop in Parañaque City, our cakes are made with:

  • Whole wheat flour
  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Fresh pork liver (not liver spread)

That last one matters more than people think.

We use fresh pork liver, not processed alternatives. It’s one of the reasons our pork liver cakes became our most popular flavor—and why dogs tend to finish them.

What We Don’t Use (and Why)

We intentionally avoid:

  • sugar
  • salt
  • dairy

Even though some ingredients (like cream or yogurt) could make cakes look “nicer” or more stable—

👉 they’re not always the best for dogs.

For example:

  • Many dogs are sensitive to dairy
  • Yogurt can spoil faster in our weather
  • Some dogs have poultry allergies (which is why we don’t push chicken flavors)

So instead of choosing what’s easiest or trendiest, we choose what works for most dogs safely.

Our Approach: Taste and Digestion

Our cakes are dense, not fluffy like human cakes.

That’s intentional.

We want cakes that:

  • dogs actually enjoy eating
  • but are still easy on their system

If we had to choose, we’d always prioritize:
👉 digestion and overall health

But based on what we see?

Dogs don’t just tolerate it—they finish it.

What About the Frosting?

Yes, it looks like a real cake.

But the frosting is simply:

  • potatoes + water

That’s it.

No dairy, no added sugar.

It’s:

  • creamy
  • dog-safe
  • and completely edible

Because we don’t believe frosting should just be “for design.”
Your dog should be able to enjoy the whole cake.

How Much Should You Feed Your Dog?

This is where a lot of owners hesitate.

For a medium-sized dog (like a Shihpoo or Beagle):

  • A 4-inch cake can be eaten in one sitting
  • But we recommend dividing it into 2–3 servings

Because at the end of the day:

👉 it’s still a treat, not a full meal

Storage Tips (So Nothing Goes to Waste)

  • Shelf life: up to 3 days in the fridge
  • You can also:
    • cut leftovers into smaller pieces
    • freeze them

👉 Frozen pieces can last 2 weeks to 1 month

What We Actually See From Customers

We don’t need to guess if dogs like it—we see it every day.

  • Dogs finishing the entire cake
  • “Ubos agad ng dog ko”
  • Customers coming back year after year

Some even try other brands… then return.

That’s usually our quiet confirmation.

Common Questions We Get

“Pwede ko ba kainin ‘to?”
Technically, the ingredients are high quality—but these are made for dogs (and safe for cats).
Hayaan na natin sa kanila 😄

“Bakit parang pang-tao yung itsura?”
Because we put the same care into how it looks—just with dog-safe ingredients.

“Bakit may lead time?”
Because we don’t mass-produce everything.
Each cake is made with planning, not rushed.

Do Dogs Really Need Cake?

They don’t need it.

But they also don’t need a lot of the things we give them.

Still…

👉 they give us their entire world
👉 and we only get a handful of birthdays with them

So what’s a cake, once in a while?

When Does It Make Sense to Get One?

Not just birthdays.

We’ve seen customers order cakes for:

  • Gotcha Day
  • After a good vet result
  • Coming home from a trip
  • Or simply… because they missed their dog

So, Are Dog Cakes Safe?

Yes—when they’re made properly.

At Pupshoppe dog cake shop in Parañaque City, we focus on:

  • simple ingredients
  • safe preparation
  • and cakes that dogs actually enjoy

Because it’s not just about celebrating—

👉 it’s about giving them something they can truly be part of.
